Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Michael Webster

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

My latest single is “future sight”, a track from my EP “a northern perspective”!

Your favourite lyric in this song:

There’s a lot of references in this track and little call outs to my inspirations, but I think the first verse is my favourite: “well the future kinda freaks me out but I don’t really think about it all that much, but who the hell has so much time to weave away the tapestry of their life”.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

From the same EP that “future sight” is on, “pennine dream” might be one of my favourites, a song about socio-political commentary that I wrote back while I was writing my dissertation. Plus it’s got a lush guitar solo!

Your favourite song to play live:

I think probably “waterlines” – it’s a great chord progression to play, and so upbeat and energetic, great fun!

The song that was the longest to write and why?

From my first EP, the first track “nausea” probably took me a good three years to finish. Some songs flow so easily, whereas others take a while to really get the meaning and emotion across.

Your most emotional track:

My most emotional track is probably “single malt” – a breakup song, set to the scene of sitting in a pub and drinking whiskey to figure out what you’re going through.

Dream collaboration:

Neil Young. What a songwriter!

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

The ability to connect with an audience and share your songs is blissful. To be able to do this week in week out is fantastic!

The hardest track to play live:

Some of my newer ones! A lot more complex finger picking patterns that I’ve gotta really be in the zone to do properly.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Headphones, paper and pen, phone. Gotta keep writing!

Describe your fans in three words:

Lovely, supportive and kind.

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)” by Bob Dylan. What a masterpiece.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

More music in the works, and plenty of gigs!!
