Playing The Favourite – INTERVIEW – No-ne

Welcome to the feature where we talk to musicians about some of their favourite things about the industry. Today we speak to the band No-ne who recently released their new album Daisyland in March, today we discover their favourite thing about the music industry.

What is your Favourite:

Song you have written :

A Japanese Dance. Because it’s mellow and punk, a bit like me.

Lyric :

Oasis by Amanda Palmer. This is a perfect example of a song with a very serious theme being made light and fun.

Musician :

Robert Smith or Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Film or television show :

The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as a film, The Prisoner as a show.

Venue to perform at :

London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire. I love its historical vibes.

Item to take with you on tour :

My MacBook Pro. An extension of me.

Instrument :

An old Ovation acoustic guitar that I have for the last 35 years.

Song to play live :

« Comme la lune » from my previous project. It has a very strong emotional charge.

Album by another musician :

Only one ? Let Go by Nada Surf.

Memory of tour :

Playing the Unesco main room in Paris when I was 19.

Era for music :

Early 90’s with the indie scene, the new wave of new wave, Sarah Records, 4AD, Rough Trade.

Part of making a record :

When it comes to record the lead vocals. It’s like a reward after all the hard work.

Thing about performing at festivals :

I don’t really like festivals. I used to, but not anymore.

Quote :

« Vivre est une chute horizontale » (To live is a horizontal fall). Jean Cocteau, Opium.

Thing about the music industry at the moment :

A lot of stuff can be done from home, like responding to this interview. Every day brings its share of surprises or disappointments. But all can happen.

Thing about this year so far?

Having my new album out in a couple of days.
