Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!) – Blu Cantrell

Today we are heading back to the early noughties to take a look at a single that you may remember as it was a track that in a moment in time it was incredibly popular.

On the 23rd April 2001, R&B artist Blu Cantrell released the single Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!). It was written and produced by Dallas Austin and the track was released under the record label of D.A.R.P. The track was the debut single for the musician and came off of the album So Blu that was also released in the same year.

The song may sound slightly familiar as it samples a tiny section of the Frank Sinatra track ‘Boys Night Out!’ The lyrics of the song are about women taking revenge on cheating men.

The single did incredibly well in the charts and went into the top 10 in Australia (3), New Zealand (3), Canada (7), Netherlands (8) and the US Mainstream Top 40 (1) to name a few. In the United Kingdom the single went to number 12 in the top 40 and number 7 in the UK Dance Chart. In the UK it sold over 200,000 copies and turned certified silver.

I remember this song as it was played a lot on the radio, it was catchy and you could easily sing along.
