29 Days of Rom Coms – Day 21 – She’s All That

Every day this month we are taking a look at a different rom com everyday to celebrate that it is a leap year in 2024 and valentines day also being in the same month.

Day 21 – She’s All That

If there was one film that was incredibly popular when I was a kid then it was She’s All That. It was everywhere, it was a film you had to of watched because it was a film that a lot of people at school would talk about. Also like any teen film that was a rom com, at that age it gave you false ideas romance and love can happen to anyone even if you are a geek the hottest guy in school CAN fall for you…..eventually.

Here’s the synopsis:

A high school jock makes a bet that he can turn an unattractive girl into the school’s prom queen.

If I was to watch this for the first time now, I would probably not enjoy it but back when I was 10 onwards it was a great film. It made you want to live in America and go to house parties that they had (I went to one at 21, it wasn’t as amazing as I thought….I ended up watching Jackass on television in an empty room as I was so bored). Also it made me want to go to their proms and do synchronized dancing.

It’s amazing how culturally this has a lot of impact on one generation and it was sort of the teen film that all other films were compared to of this genre. It was a film I watched a lot and had some really fun moments to it. It’s only from hearing the music on the latest McDonald’s advert with the song Give It To Me that it reminded me of a really cringey part of a film that happens where Matthew Lillard sings and dances at a party to that song.

I will always look back on this film with fond memories and for many years it was the best rom com – nowadays I do not think I could say the same thing but I must watch it again for the memories. One thing that can be said about it is that it started the beginning of many jokes in films and references other will use later.
