The one thing I love about music is that everyone has their own story to tell – the musician, the lyrics, the way the fans decipher them and also the way a song can also create a memory or a meaning to someone. That is what this new article is all about. Each fortnight, we will take a look at a different song and I will take you as a trip down memory lane as to what it means to me. Welcome to Music Memories.
Track: Hysteria
Artist: Muse
Original Release Date: 1st December 2003
Being a millennial is a weird thing – you have been alive for a few decades and yet you have experienced so much technology due to the speed of advancements. It seems weird to think that as a kid it was hard to access new music and you would spend hours listening to the radio to record tracks, but here we are.
I used to listen to various radio channels such as Radio 1 to record songs off of he rock show that used to be on there with Zane Lowe. He would always have all the exclusive plays of brand new singles so it was the place to be. One of the songs that I recorded off of this show was Hysteria by Muse.
The problem with recording songs off the radio means that you always got speaking of the DJ at the end of the tracks. Since it was a long time until I got the album as it used to take ages for them to be released, I had my radio version as my main source and listened to it a lot. Whenever I hear this song, even now, I can still hear the DJ at the end going that was Muse with their new track. The new generation will never understand the randomness and the weird memories you get still now thanks to the basic technology.
