Every day this month we are taking a look at a different rom com everyday to celebrate that it is a leap year in 2024 and valentines day also being in the same month.

Day 6 – The Proposal

I have always been a fan of Sandra Bullock and always been a huge fan of her rom coms and some of them are my favourites which we will discuss later in the month.

I can’t remember how I first discovered this film but the fact it has Sandra in it I more then likely wanted to see it straight away and I am sure I used to have it on DVD.

Ryan Reynolds was always one of those actors that sorted floated around and we always in really random films. The teen films that he was in such as Just Friends and National Lampoons Van Wilder I couldn’t really click with and always found him a bit light. It’s only in the last few years after Deadpool when he has become the prankster of Hollywood that I have started to like him before I just found him a bit of a pretty boy that played very mellow roles. Saying that I like him in this film.

Here is the synopsis:

A pushy boss forces her young assistant to marry her in order to keep her visa status in the U.S. and avoid deportation to Canada.

It is everything you want from a rom com, a great balance or comedy and romance with a chemistry along the way of the two leads (which probably may of melded into reality as they ended up dating in real life a few years later).

The story is a bit silly at times but it’s is pure escapism with a fun story thrown in as well. There are some really random parts with Betty White where they do weird rapping around a fire but it is light hearted and that’s what you need.

As far as Rom coms are concerned this is a great one and I recommend it.
