30 Best Songs of 2023 – pt 2

It has come to the point of the year when we celebrate all things music and take a look back on the year and what songs that it has provided us with. Today we have a look at the second ten in our list of greatest songs of 2023.

11) Hated – Yungblud

It is very brave of anyone to talk about abuse on any level but to put it as really brutal lyrics at the beginning of a song is a very interesting concept whilst also shocking one. This song was released as a stand alone in August. Even if you are not a fan of Yungblud you should listen to this track as it is very different to their other songs and this one really deals with some serious issues.

12) Single Soon – Selena Gomez

In August, Selena Gomez released a brand new single called Single Soon.  It is a track that grows on you, at first you are not sure that you like it but then it develops. To me, it really sounds like a track that Taylor Swift could easily of written or sung as I can hear inspirations from her in it. It has a laugh intertwined throughout and has an electronic beat that is catchy whilst weirdly uplifting.

13) Stuck in a Car With You – Twin Atlantic

In September, Twin Atlantic released the song Stuck In A Car With You. It is a track that signifies the next chapter for the band and a sign of new music to come. This particular track is about the little things in life that can pass you by. They spent a lot of the last part of the year touring so, here is to new music in 2024.

14) One More Time – Blink 182

In September, Blink-182 started to release new music to promote their new album One More Time that was due out in October. This was a song that I sort of predicted to come out of the Blink-182 reunion with Tom, a song about them being apart and now together. It is a song that has proved popular and has had over 3 million views already on Youtube in September alone it is now up to over 17 million. I personally find it ok but preferred the other track that they released with this one. If you want a song that is sad that reflects on the past then this is the song for you.

15) Blood Hair Eyeballs – Alkaline Trio

October was a great month for Alkaline Trio fans as they came back with a brand new single and even announced that they were releasing a new album in January of 2024.  It was a fantastic treat and it is a track that is typical Alkaline Trio with a punchy chorus, a great set of guitar riffs and a song you just want to listen to over and over again.

16) Already over – Mike Shinoda

I came across this track by accident in October and I am so happy that I did as it is such a catchy track with a really big chorus and a song that has lyrics you just want to sing along to. Since the passing of Chester Bennington it was always a questions what would happen with the talented musician and he is created some fantastic music. This is a song I highly recommend you listen to. Mike Shinoda also released an EP this year as well with new music on.

17) Run Run Run – The Libertines

In October, we saw the return of the indie band The Libertines with this song called Run Run Run. With the release of the single came the announcement of the new album All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ and they also did a few intimate gigs in Margate. This new song is one of those tracks that when you listen to it you will get it stuck in your head and hear yourself humming it.

18) Windows – Take That

This year saw the return of pop group royalty Take That who returned in September with a brand new single called Windows and an announcement that they were going on tour in 2024. The song was the lead track to come off of the new album that is called This Life. The song went to number 3 in the UK Downloads chart.

19) Vampire – Olivia Rodrigo

In June, Olivia Rodrigo returned with a brand new single called Vampire which became an instant hit. The song was the lead single to be released off of the new album Guts that was also released this year. The song went to number 1 in many countries including the UK, the US, Japan and New Zealand to name a few. It also won many awards including Best Editing for the video at the MTV Video Music Awards.

20) Paint The Town Red – Doja Cat

The last song of this week is a track that went viral on social media such as Tik Tok and became a trend. Paint the Town Red was released by American Rapper Doja Cat on the 4th August 2023. The song was taken off of the new album called Scarlet. It has music samples throughout of Dionne Warwick’s track Walk On By. The single went to number 1 in 19 countries including Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, the US and the UK. It has also been nominated for a Grammy.
