Music Memories – This Week – This Is An Emergency

The one thing I love about music is that everyone has their own story to tell – the musician, the lyrics, the way the fans decipher them and also the way a song can also create a memory or a meaning to someone. That is what this new article is all about. Each fortnight, we will take a look at a different song and I will take you as a trip down memory lane as to what it means to me. Welcome to Music Memories.

Track: This Is An Emergency
Artist: The Pigeon Detectives
Original Release Date: 12th May 2008

Ever since 2008, I have been going to gigs a lot of the time by myself. It is not because I am a loser or a loner but it is because I got to a point of being fed up relying of others to come with me as a lot of people were not into the same music that I was.

There was an Indie Night at my University and ever so often they used to hold competitions to win random things.ne day they were offering the winner free tickets to The Pigeon Detectives for writing a paragraph that included a cow and a pigeon.

I was not really a fan of the band but as soon as I saw this competition I knew and had a feeling that I was going to win it. I don’t get that egotistical feeling ever but I knew I was going to win because I was going to write a short creative poem that was a creative story.

Cut a long story short, I won! It was great – I had two free tickets and invited my housemate to the concert. However last minute (as we were about to leave) they let me down and so I went on my own m(another reason to no rely on others for gigs!). Due to the fact I was on my own I got a really great view at the front on a podium at the side front of the stage.

Even though I wasn’t a fan of the band they were really good on stage and gave off this fantastic energy. It was all going well until something happened…

Now, I can’t remember what song the band were performing but because of what happened, every time I hear ‘This Is An Emergency’ I think of this night.

The band were performing a song and then an alarm went off and it wouldn’t stop. Suddenly, all the house lights came on and the security guards forced the band to stop playing as there was a fire alarm and we all go evacuated from the venue. I remember that the band was not happy.

When we got evacuated I decided to leave as I enjoyed what I had seen and couldn’t be bothered to wait as I knew a bus home was due. I listen to Pigeon Detectives ever so often and when I hear This Is An Emergency, it always takes me back to this night.
