It is funny what you remember of your very early years and a lot of mine are all based around music. It was something that was always surrounding me. I have spoken already about my earliest music memory with the Jungle Book well today we will talk about a different one that is still based around a cartoon.

When I was a toddler, I loved the animation The Chipmunks and I really enjoyed watching it. When I was three years old, I was given a tape player that had a microphone attached where you could record your voice and this is one of my strongest earliest memories.

I don’t know whether it is because I still have a recording on a cassette and I hear everything play out or whether I remember this but I can picture the room vividly. On the recording I can hear my mum trying to get me to sing an and then I do. It takes me right back to my grandparents front room, in front of a big mirror, with the plastic microphone in my hand.

In the recording, you have my mum singing part of the Chipmunks song and trying to get me to sing into the microphone. It is a sweet thing to listen back to and brings back lots of memories. The enthusiasm in my voice, the enjoyment of singing it- it is lovely to hear where the origins of my love for music began.
