Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
We recently released our second full album. The album isn’t titled but because of the artwork it has been called the “Red Balloon” album. There is a song on the album called “One Red Balloon” and the artwork is a representation of that. So far it has gotten great reviews and is building momentum on all streaming platforms. Song and album came from a poem I wrote for my wife of the same name. She’s a huge horror nerd and loves Pennywise the clown so I wrote her a love poem from the perspective of Pennywise but instead of giving roses he gives “One Red Balloon”.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
The first single we ever released was off the first album “Frozen Summer” called “The Other Man”. This song is very personal to me because it’s about my cheating ex-wife. You always hear songs about the other woman, but very rarely do you hear about the other man. It touches on the change of emotion from what did I do wrong, to why should I forgive when I didn’t do anything wrong. I think 99% of men can relate.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
My favorite song that I have created is “One Red Balloon”. It was the first song I wrote and sang exclusively in 30 years and that song spawned the latest album. I was apprehensive to put myself out there at first but I’m glad I did.
Your favourite song to play live:
My favorite song to play live is “Just Go Away”. Its always the last song in the set because of the energy and emotion in the song and it all culminates into a dead stop which is the perfect way to end a powerful set.
Your most emotional track:
I believe the most emotional track is “Where Did You Go?” I wrote that song after my fiancé passed away unexpectedly in 2018. Music has always been a release and I tried to pour what I was feeling into the lyrics and music. People who have heard it tell me they can hear my pain in the song and relate it to a loss of their own. It took me about 30 tries to finish the lyrics because I couldn’t stop crying as I was recording.
The best lyric you have ever written:
I think the best lyrics I have written are on the song “Goodnite”. That song explores the isolation and loneliness we all feel because of loss, depression or divorce and the piano helps articulate those lyrics and emotions perfectly.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
When we go on stage to us its like a live practice. We don’t overthink things or worry about what the people will think. We play like we practice and practice like we play with the goal of having fun playing the music we love. I think the crowd can pick up on that and they join right along.
The hardest track to play live:
The hardest track to play is “Wake Up”. When I originally wrote the song, I was not the singer so I didn’t envision having to play and sing the song but since I am now, I must do both, and it can be a complicated riff to try to play and sing. It’s a song a beginner couldn’t just pick up and play and sing.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
That would be too many to name LOL. I have a guitar case full of everything I have ever forgotten or needed in my career so now no matter what problem arises I have something to fix it and often I use my “bag of tricks” to help the other musicians who run into unexpected problems.
Describe your fans in three words:
Dedicated, crazy, and awesome.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Hmmm. I would “End of the Heartache” by Killswitch Engage. I love everything about that song so if I were to be selfish, I would say that one but honestly, I’d rather just be me and write my own stuff. I don’t want Misery Lane to sound like anyone or have someone hear a song and say they stole that from so and so. All original skirting the razor’s edge of where hard rock meets metal.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
This year we will continue to play shows to support the newest album “Red Balloon” and I will continue to write songs for the next album. When that will be released will depend on when we decide to take a break from shows to put the finishing touches on what we have so far.
