The Travel Book – Travel Through A Photo – Gibraltar, Spain

There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to the feature that will appear regularly in the travel section.

Gibraltar is one of those places that was never on my list to visit – mainly because a lot of British tourists flood to this area for holidays and I tend to try and avoid these places as I like to speak the local language and feel like I am ‘away!’

In 2012, we went went on a cruise and it just so happened that Gibraltar was one of the stops. We arrived really early so we disembarked as soon as it allowed us to and we went exploring. The one thing I really wanted to do was go to the top of the rock. The person I was with suffered vertigo so couldn’t go on the cable car so I went up on my own.

The one thing that I noticed straight away was how quiet it was as there was hardly anyone around and the fact I went alone I was with a lot of apes on the top of the rock. This was pretty creepy. They were really fascinating animals and that is why I took this photograph.

This ape was quite big but it was also one of them that was on their own. I really like this photograph and whenever I think of this photograph.

I love this photo as I adore the way that the ape is looking really dramatically into the distance. I really like the background and the level of depth.

It is a photograph that brings me peace and happiness. It is a good memory of Gibraltar and makes me smile.
