Cupid’s Chokehold – Gym Class Heroes
Do you remember that there was a time when you couldn’t escape music by the band Gym Class Heroes? I quite liked their music but it was played a lot. Today we take a look at one of their first singles that did really well in the United Kingdom.
Cupid’s Chokehold was released in March of 2005. If the track sounds familiar, it could be because it heavily samples the Supertramp song Breakfast in America. The song also features the vocals of Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy.
The single was produced by S*A*M and released under the record labels of Decaydance and Fueled By Ramen, IT was originally from the album The Papercut Chronicles then re-recorded for the 2006 album As Cruel As School Children.
The single did really well and went into the top 5 in many countries including Canada (3), Hungary (2), Ireland (3), Scotland (5) and the UK (3). In the United States, the song went into the charts at number 1 in the Mainstream Top 40. In the United Kingdom it sold over 600,000 units and became certified platinum and in the United States it went 3x Platinum selling over 3,000,000.
It was a catchy little song and whilst I did not like it originally, it grew on me and I ended up liking it.
