If there is one thing that Scotland has a lot of then it is lighthouses, there are so many to visit and today we are going to look at one I got to walk up to the other day and was so fascinating I wanted to write an article about it. Scurdie Ness is a lighthouse located in Montrose and is one of the many created by the Stevenson family.
The lighthouse is located on the South Side of the River South Esk Estuary, you can get to this lighthouse by getting the train to Montrose from Glasgow or Edinburgh. It is about an hour, minimum walk to the path that leads to the historic building.
The lighthouse was constructed in 1870 and is 39 metres tall and was automated in 1987. To reach the lighthouse you have to walk along a path way that curves around the cliffs and gives you a fantastic view of the coastline of Montrose.
It is one of those walks that is amazing to do, especially on a sunny day as you can see all the way over to the cairngorms and all the way up the coastline towards Stonehaven. The water is clear and it is a wonderful place to visit.
I would highly recommend going to this place to visit as it is a historic location and has a wonderful view of the sea when you get to the end.
