Welcome to the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today we speak to the band Sorrow Enthroned. In July the released the single llicit Infantile Surgical Procedures. The track sees the band transition from the genre of blackened death metal to brutal death metal. Today we ask them some difficult questions.
What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?
Onward, the Tomb Awaits is an emotionally heavy song and the lyrics are about suicide and what very well may lie in the afterlife, nothing but darkness and the state of non being. For me depression feels like something gnawing at my soul all day everyday, like a burning acidic pain and the desire to end it all is tempting to gain some sense of relief from the burden of existence, but what if the nothing is worse on the other side? I feel like our souls are cursed no matter what state of existence it is in and that’s what the song explores.
What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?
Someone said the music sounds like its coming out of the pits of hell which is what i’m going for exactly
Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?
Sorrow Enthroned is just a one man band with just online releases at the moment. Playing live one day would be cool, but its impossible at this time. It would be awesome to share the stage with some slam bands at some point.
What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?
I don’t play live, but the hardest song to perform is off the newest album, and its called Into Hell… The first half of the song has lots of notes in a short amount of time and it always makes my hand hurt getting through at least the first part of that song. Its very much inspired by the faster morbid angel type of riffs.
Dream Collaboration and why ?
I am probably going to start a slam band, so sometime collaborating with PeelingFlesh would be cool. This latest album leans very heavy into slam and brutal death metal territory and its inspired me to explore that sound further. I grew up listening to deathcore and so I’ve always gravitated towards the heavier side of the genre, especially when I discovered death metal and slam. Also seeing the current boom of old school death metal revival is inspiring, due to the fact that it isn’t just re hashing of the same riffs. The bands now are adding a modern twist to the songwriting and the riffs are unique and identifiable to each band and it just shows the natural evolution of death metal.
