The Travel Book – Travel Through A Photo – Thun, Switzerland

There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to a new feature that will appear regularly this year in the travel section. Today we are going to kick things off by looking at one of my favourite photos.

Sometimes when I look back on photographs, it brings back a lot of memories of what happened that day. It was 2014, we were travelling 2,000 miles around Switzerland by train for Christmas. Before we went to the country, we had a basic plan of the locations we would visit. Nothing was really set in stone and along the way we added a few extras and Thun was one of them.

I can’t remember exactly why we chose to go there for a day trip but I know that we were staying in Interlaken which is just up the road. All I can say is that it was the best idea to go there as it was wonderful.

The main thing I remember was how pretty it was – there was water running through the village and it had these wonderful bridges, There was one area though that blew us away with it’s magic due to just how pretty it was and that was the area near the water where this photograph was taken.

Right behind this photo there is a building that looked like it belonged in Harry Potter films as it had turrets and looked like a castle. Now, imagine that with this view, I found it very breathtaking.

I deliberately took the photograph in front of the tree to give is a bit more depth and interest. I love that the weather really seeps through and you imagine how cold it actually was that day. I really loved this and I hope this photograph highlights that.
