Hoopla Impro

Gämez Month – INTERVIEW – High Energy Times Twenty!

We are kicking off September with an improv team that hare all about short form – Gämez! An improv team that started as a house team for Hoopla and over the years has expanded to be a team that performs at many festivals and even remixes improv games! All month, I will be speaking to team members Ryan and Charlotte about everything improv, on the road and so much more! This week we find out all about the core of the team behind the group!

Hello Gämez, how are you? How has your summer been?

Charlotte: Great! We’ve just been performing at the Camden Fringe at the Museum of Comedy and had a marvellous time!

For those who are not aware of who you are – tell us all about your team!

Ryan: We are a high-energy short-form improv group based in London. We originally formed as one of the first Hoopla House Teams and enjoy creating a fun and friendly show atmosphere.

If you had to describe each member in one word – what would that be?

Ryan: We’re a group of about 20 people so to avoid an essay I’ll go with Delightful twenty times

What is the way that you like your team name pronounced?

Ryan: It’s pronounced ‘GAM-EZ’, but we’ve been called Games, Gah-mess, Gaemes. Pretty much everything under the sun so we will probably respond to anything at this stage!

Also I have seen you live you have a chant at some points of your name – how did this come about?

Charlotte: At the first ever Gämez show the skies opened and the words “GÄMEZ GÄMEZ GÄMEZ, could be heard tumbling from the skies in an ethereal voice. Either that or Steve Roe asked the audience to do it and it just sort of caught on.

Tell us about your latest show format!

Ryan: Gämez TV is an hour-long short-form show turning classic short-form improv games into shows from the telly! We go through a range of TV genres and styles playing themed games based on audience suggestions.

What is your favourite thing about being in Gämez?

Charlotte: We are pals first which makes playing so much more fun and intuitive. We laugh as much off stage as we do on.

If people want to find you on social media, where can they follow you?

Ryan: We’re @gamezimprov on Insta, Facebook and whatever Twitter’s now called. And do check out gamezimprov.com to see our latest gigs and to grab tickets!
