INTERVIEW – A Quick Conversation With: Hellaphant

Welcome to the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today we speak to Hellaphant a band that has released the album Crumble and Rise this year. Also, they are heading out on tour in Eastern Canada in November and trying to work out tour dates for Europe and the US. Today we ask them some tough questions!

What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?

“Tell me to come over to wave goodbye”. It stems from a personal experience in my life. Being told I don’t make effort and then when I tried to change it was met with the truth that it was just a head game.

What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?

Um, I don’t know. No gifts yet.  As for compliments.  We don’t get many weird ones.  Just good ones. I wish I had a great story here but we look forward to that day.

Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?

A Wilhelm Scream! They are all extremely talented at their craft but make it fun.  Great live, great albums and super nice people.  They out nice us and tat’s hard to do.

What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?

Orphan.  It’s straight forward but due to the nature of the song i have a bit of a struggle singing the intro in rehearsals because I don’t want to tap into the part of my life.

Dream Collaboration and why ?

Elvis Costello or Sarah Slean. Both are just poetic songsmiths.  Tell stories that bring you in. Both are different writers and can craft great songs. I’m just a guy who writes from my emotions and would love to be a better story teller.
