The Travel Book – The Beehive, Crail, Scotland

I have recently moved to Scotland and in the ten months that i have lived here, I have tried to visit as many places as I possibly can by public transport. They have these great day tickets where you can use the busses in huge areas all day and because of this it means that I try and visit as many smaller areas as possible that people may not visit as much but make great little adventures.

I have found in these smaller areas it can be really difficult to find somewhere to eat or have a drink because they don’t open until 12, they are closed on certain days (yes, this happens a lot) or they do not look like coffee shops. Well today we are going to look at one of these areas with this difficulty of finding somewhere – Crail.

Crail is a tiny fishing harbour on the Fife Coast – I was only there for a very short time but there is one thing I found out straight away when I got there was it was incredibly difficult to find somewhere to eat. There isn’t a lot of choice and that is how I came across a place on the high street called The Beehive.

It has a really confusing shop fronnt and you think it only sells ice cream and art /supplies and tourist items, However, when you investigate more, it eventually becomes apparent that it also has a cafe that supplies food.

The one thing that I instantly liked about it was that it sold a lot of local produce as part of the menu – pickles, salmon, local bread, crab and ham. The food is reasonably priced for the portion that you receive as well.

The food was tasty, the staff was friendly and it is a place I would recommend you visit if you are ever in the area of Crail.
