Hello! Tell us about yourself ?

Pirates: You Wouldn’t Steal A Boat was written by Matt Davies & Kit Livsey – a pair of ex-Cambridge Footlights regulars who love Orlando Bloom in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Specifically Orlando Bloom. Can’t imagine why.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the Camden fringe?

So we were in the middle of stealing this boat and – sorry, I’m told we’re not allowed to talk about this without a crime reference number. Moving on.

Tell us a little bit about your style of show?

High-energy and low-brow! Also piratey. Come watch us if you want to see walking the plank, copious rum and a good ol’ fashioned marooning – and 5 mates (mateys?) having an absolute blast on stage.

What will your set be about?

Pirates follows Sharkbait Mulligan – a pirate who, after being betrayed by his captain, finds himself with just the clothes on his chest and the rum on his chest. Backed into a corner, he teams up with new first mate Louie to hunt for revenge, gold and bootleg DVDs. Expect sword fights, storms and a good ol’ fashioned marooning…

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

INVASION! An Alien Musical, GAMEZ TV and Improv the Dead – just seem like our kind of stuff!

Have you done the fringe before? What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?

The duo behind Pirates performed at Camden Fringe last year and loved it so much we wrote, directed and starred in a show just to make it back!

What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?

Do it! Plan early and pre for a wild, energetic crowd who are on your side every step of the way.

What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?

The people, 100%. We’re a pair of Londoners, so we’re absolutely on home turf writing a show for a diverse and enthusiastic audience!

London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?

Leave the arts.

What are your three favourite things about Camden?

1. Pirate Castle. Obvious reasons.

2. Camden Market – sorry, it’s an obvious one, but it’s peak London culture.

3. Pirate Castle – go back after the first time.

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

Matt: I once made an ad-lib about Queen Elizabeth II, on video, on the 7th September 2022. The day before… yeah. It’s a miracle he’s employed.

Kit: I used to open my gigs with a zero liner

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Queen Elizabeth II but in a pinch we’d settle for Orlando Bloom.

The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?

Polly the Parrot Pigeon
