INTERVIEW – A Quick Conversation With: Arctic Dreams

Welcome to the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today we speak to Arctic Dream who are currently in the process of writing material for a new release, however you can listen to their music via here. We ask them the tough music questions.

What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?

Alex_Y: This will probably be the title track of our first full-length, “…And The Agony has Started”.  This track is very long in time and has a lot of lyrics. Basically, we had to put the plot of the disaster movie into this track.) Also there was a problem with the bridge of the track “The City Built od Bones”. There was no way I could get the lines in the right size. In the end I took a translation of one of the classic Russian poets. It was a kind of collaboration.

Sydius: I don’t write lyrics in Arctic Dreams. But if you ask me – I consider lyrics much closer to poetry then to usual lyrics for songs, which complicates it to nearly impossible as this field is a remoted and unknown field for me. But again – this topic is on my mind according to a dream to write my own songs. And Arctic Dreams is OK with what Alex figures out.

Glam_Dickens: The hardest are those not used still. Usually it starts with an idea or a catchy phrase, but not always get finished.

What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?

Alex_Y: Well, in my case a female fan suggested I move to live with her in some suburb of Melbourne, Australia. To my question that the whole band, our recording studio is in Europe and how I would do Arctic Dreams in general, she innocently replied: “That’s ok, you’ll fly for the weekend. Is it ok that the flight is at least 8 hours and the plane ticket is very expensive, ha ha ha?

Sydius: Wov, besides the strange gifts – they are sometimes useful. Once I got a pillow and I used it . And another time somebody brought a juice squeezer. Even if it’s weird I prefer these more than traditional souvenirs, flowers etc

Glam_Dickens: None yet. Maybe about my outfit or playing sometimes.

“…Sometimes I had some Dream Collabs come true – and it wasn’t worth even being published! That’s why it’s so hard to make long-lasting bands…”

Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?

Alex_Y: We are very often asked the question. Usually I give some big names, but today I will name my friends: my friend Marko Mitrovich and his two bands “Xsus” and “Rapidforce”. These metal bands are well known in the Serbian metal scene. Great musicians with great material, as well as great and reliable people with whom you can go to the ends of the earth.

Sydius: I remember Evadam. We toured with them as an opening band and I ended joining their shows as the 2nd guitarist, we had a great time.

Glam_Dickens: Rage in 2018. They are really cool guys, we had fun time backstage

What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?

Alex_Y: All of our compositions are difficult to play live. We have a lot of synth underlays, backing tracks, orchestral parts, etc. It’s hard enough to make it all sound good, but we manage so far.

Sydius: I have a problem with a desire to overcomplicate everything. So if the song is too easy I start to come up with some unplayable things. So everything becomes the most difficult.

“…I consider lyrics much closer to poetry then to usual lyrics for songs, which complicates it to nearly impossible as this field is a remoted and unknown field for me...”

Dream Collaboration and why ?

Alex_Y: At the moment I would like to do a collaboration with a good symphony orchestra.

Sydius: Well, I learned that people you admire and dream of hanging up with may occur just the opposite to your personality. You find out you have no common points and interests. Sometimes I had some Dream Collabs come true – and it wasn’t worth even being published! That’s why it’s so hard to make long-lasting bands. Don’t get me wrong – most of famous and talented people are very cool to collab with. But the idea of dreaming of smth hides a disappointment potential.

Glam_Dickens: It doesn’t really matter with whom. What really matters really is the result and process, experience
