Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I’m a dance maker and cabaret performer living in London and Brussels. My hodge-podge of artistic experiences emerge from a background in dance with stopovers in theatre and jazz music, permeated with a sense of humour and a fascination with comedy. My work has been shown across the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Denmark and Croatia.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?
I wanted a word that used the word ‘groove’ (a rather essential essence in my show), from there groovicle just appeared!
Tell us all about your show!
Groovicle is a 21st century contemporary dance cabaret! Hiding underneath twisted dance numbers, physical challenges and funny fragmented conversations is my desire to be cool and groovy. I’m on the search for collective discovery about who we are, what we like and how we co-exist together. Through multiple attempts, trials and tribulations and experiments we unpack our expectations and unknowing audiences are lured in and out of the groove.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I saw Monia Baldini’s one-woman clown show ‘Be My Guest’ a while ago and thought it was incredible. I should of course plug my dad (Ian Stone – Will Make It Better) who has a comedy show at The Laughing Horse.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
No first time bringing a show! Been up lots though so pretty familiar with the energy and intensity.
What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?
We Move in Close Circles by CHA x5, Orley Quick and Sam Pardes was a hoot! It happens in a house and there are some hilariously passive aggressive exchanges. Kim Noble’s Lullaby for Scavengers was a highlight too, beautifully twisted, unhinged almost, I’ve never seem so much taxidermy. I also saw the drag performer climate change run an interactive shadow puppet theatre show in Brussels, that was like a fever dream.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
I’ll see how monastic I go… might all be out the window by week 3!
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
I suppose there’s a beautiful balance point between careless abandon and massively overworking. I’m likely leaning towards the latter but let’s see what fringe brings out in me…
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Being part of the largest arts festival in the world. There’s nothing like it.
The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?
I’m assuming the sheer length of the festival, it’s so bloody long!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
I’m a dancer so I’m never far away from bodywork equipment, by this I mean: foam roller, massage balls, magnesium etc. But I’m sure with all that walking everyone will be in need of some massage.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Finding a bit of connection. That’s a bit abstract perhaps but I think it’s easy to feel bewildered as a punter.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
I believe Colonel Parker has this quote about audiences being ‘unsettled by their excitement’, not sure if I’ve got that right but I like it regardless.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

And finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
It’s funny, physical and of course groovy.
