Taste Of States – This Week – Frosted Ribbon Sandwich Loaf

Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. This can be everything from the snacks that are available for a limited time to the foods that are classic traditions at events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving! Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.

FROSTED RIBBON SANDWICH LOAF

Today we are going to take a different approach to Taste of States and head back in time and look at a recipe that is a classic of America. Today we are going to look at the Frosted Ribbon Sandwich loaf.

The recipe comes from the 1960’s and was created to make a fancy statement at parties when you had guests. The recipe took the idea of a fancy sandwich and took it in a completely different direction.

The frosted ribbon sandwich loaf take the idea of lunch and turns it into a sort of cake. From looking online, I get the impression that it takes a variety of different finger sandwiches such as ham salad and egg salad and you place them in layers and stack them upwards.

You then chill the tower of sandwiches for a hour and then you cover the whole thing in a cream cheese style of ‘frosting’. This means when you sliced it for guests it would create a fancy show piece.
