Hello! Tell us about yourself?

My show was nominated Most Outstanding Show at Melbourne International Comedy Festival this year and I was awarded the Pinder Prize which secured me a season at Assembly and now I’m here.

It’s my first time in Edinburgh and I’m throwing myself to the lions, curious to know if my show will resonate.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

More commonly known to UK audiences as a goodie bag or bag of sweets, I usually received a lolly bag at the end of a party when I was a kid. Like a lolly bag, the show is sweet, abundant and unpredictable.

Tell us all about your show!

A mixed bag of sketches. A mechanic, a dance, a pilot, tickling, bedtime, a song. Something for everyone*. *Everyone who loves silly sketches.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Much to see. I’m excited to watch Gaulier colleagues’ shows: Viggo Venn, Julia Masli, Elf Lyons, Zach Zucker, Maddy Bye. Where are they now? Etc. I’m also keen to see Freya Parker as I ushered Freya’s duo show back in Melbourne a long time ago.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I’m new to Edinburgh so looking for advice myself but as a regular festival participant I would say follow your hunch and don’t question it. A list of 3207 shows is a lot to unpack so if you respect someone’s poster aesthetic, see their show. If you know someone who worked on the show who you respect, see their show. If you respect someone for traveling a long way ie Australians, then see their shows.

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

“We actually go to bed a little bit later”. It’s how I say it.

What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?

Isabelle Carney from Australia had this really fun show in Melbourne International Comedy Festival. It was so refreshing. It was surprising in every way possible and was visually nuanced and restrained.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

I’m going to get up and run through the streets, taking in the sites and sounds. I’ll get a coffee and start writing a TV show that will get picked up at the end of my season. I’ll cook brunch for a bunch of performers and then we’ll go and see a matinee show, we’ll flyer for each other, then I’ll perform my show, see another, do 10 gigs (that’s too many!), dance a little and then hit the hay.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

The best way is to sulk and feel bitter and then book yourself into a show and leave feeling inspired. The juxtaposition is thrilling.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

I’ve got this image of me in someone’s kitchen suffocating by my laughter after a comedian has done something silly with an object. Something physical, something simple with the energy of a traveller.

The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?

Flyering.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Oil burner, sharp knife for chopping vegetables and bathers (togs, cossies, swimmers, trunks – which one is used in the UK?).

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

There’s a secret?

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Anyone famous but they’ve got to have a generous laugh. They’ve got to laugh at the drop of a hat. Are Bette Midler or Lily Tomlin generous of spirit?

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

People – Instagram Dogs – Twitter

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Sexy, cool, wow?
