That Time When

That Time When – I made Scouting For Girls Feel Guilty

Back when I was in college my ambition in life was to be a journalist, hence the reason I enjoy writing this site so much. One of the things you have to do to get into any media job is do work experience throughout college and university and in these segments of work experience lots of random things happened and this is just one of the stories I have to tell In this feature. Last week I told you about my work experience at a newspaper in a posh area, today I will tell you another story and this one is around a magazine.
A few years after the newspaper I had to do work experience at university and I was so lucky to get a position at Top of The Pops Magazine. I was so excited – I loved this show growing up and the magazine was a huge part of my childhood I bought it religiously and loved it so much so was very excited to start work.

One of the articles I wrote

I loved it – I don’t have anything negative to say about Top of The Pops, well I had to watch Camp Rock but that was fine it wasn’t the worst thing I have had I watch. I wrote articles, wrote answers for Dick and Doms letters, wrote star signs and even got the chance to interview Scouting For Girls.
The interview happened over the phone and it was all questions that would be relevant for a teenagers pop magazine. Roy was great fun to talk to and we were having a laugh along the way too.
I had just finished my first year at university and at the end of the year there is something called The Summer Ball where students go to celebrate the end of a university year dressed in fancy dress. Funnily enough, that year Scouting For Girls was our headline act.
I ended up deciding to tell him a story as to what happened to my friend when they were performing. My friend was in the front row and as soon as they came on stage everyone pushed forward. The push was so forceful that it dislocated my friends knee and then it clicked back in place and pulled all of his ligaments ad had to be rushed to hospital and get out the mosh pit.
Roy started laughing not in a bad way we were both in good moods and sorting laughing about it but he was very surprised and apologised about my friends leg and said he felt terribly guilty.
I enjoyed my time at Top of The Pops magazine and even have copies of what I wrote. It was great fun.
