This week, The Miller Pub is holding one the biggest Improv events of the season – The Hoopla Marathon. A 50 hour event of non stop improv with over 200 acts performing in the same room over the whole weekend – it’s going to be an event that you will not want to miss out on!
The event is going to play host to some of the biggest names in Improv, as well as troupes, jams and so much more! The event is a charity event to raise awareness of Team Margot, an organisation that campaigns for people to register as potential bone marrow / stem cell donors and all profits from the event will go to the charity.
So because there are so many acts performing, we have interviewed a bunch of acts about their shows so you know what ones you can go and see! We have interviewed a bunch of acts performing across the whole event at lots of time slots so you can have a varied choice as to what to see!
Have a look below at some of the other acts we have interviewed about their spots!

Dead Drunk Detective
What time is your slot?
10:25am on Saturday 21st October
Tell us a little about your style of improv?
It’s an improvised gothic film-noir sitcom. Well, it’s a kind of adaptation of our podcast, also called Dead Drunk Detective, which is that mash-up of genres, but the cast is made up of a brilliant set of improvisers, so we thought we might have a go at improvising an episode. So in short, narrative, silly and colourful.
What will your set be about?
Our sitcom takes place in a borough that’s populated by classic monsters of pop culture and centres around a private detective (and drunken zombie) that has to solve the crimes in the district.
What other acts are you looking forward to?
There are some great looking sets that are improvised episodes or adaptations of great material. I’m looking forward to the improvised Rick & Morty for starters. Then theres Mamet, Improvised Crystal Maze, and all the other madness. I’m looking forward to it all really.
In three words why should people come and watch you at the marathon?
ZOMBIE PRIVATE DETECTIVE
Electric Priests
What time is your slot?
Our slot is 2-3:45pm on Sunday.
Tell us a little about your style of improv?
Our style is quite fast paced and playful! Our form is an organic La Ronde, but we have a healthy appreciation for game as well.
What will your set be about?
It’s impossible to say what our set will be about because it’s all made up in the moment! Every Electric Priests show will be about something different, inspired by a town name suggested by the audience. We always explore a town and the characters in it but these people and their desires change every time. That’s the beauty of improv, it’s a one-time, completely unique experience each time.
What other acts are you looking forward to?
Really looking forward to the late night experimental shows, as well as all the major acts like Comedy Store Players. Should be a fun weekend!
In three words why should people come and watch you at the marathon?Unexpected. Endless. Fun
What is your Twitter Handle?
@Electric Priests, send us some fun tweets!
Newsical
What time is your slot?
22:30* on Friday the 20th of October between Actor’s Nightmare and Improvised Mamet.(change to advertised time)
Tell us a little about your style of improv?
For the Marathon we are performing our Headlines format which is rapid fire improvised scenes and songs based on the previous week’s news.
What will your set be about?
Whatever was in the news that week.
What other acts are you looking forward to?
The Bareback Kings have been causing a stir and I’ve not caught them yet, the Motivational Lobster is always life affirming and joyous and Arnie the improvised hip hop action movie sounds genius.
In three words why should people come and watch you at the marathon?
Danger. Satire. Singing.
Dullprov
what time is your slot?
We’re rocking out at the 2.50am slot on the 21st (so late late Friday Night/early early Saturday morning!)
Tell us a little about your style of improv?
Dullprov is a celebration of all that is normal in this world, focusing on the beauty in the mundane and the tiny, pointless interactions that get us through the day.
What will your set be about?
In a one off, never to be repeated marathon special we’ll be performing as Dullprov Presents: Improvised Blue Peter. Expect expeditions to tedious locations, interviews with experts in everyday tasks and probably some sort of speedy cardboard box based creative endeavour.
What other acts are you looking forward to?
For excellent use of puns and booze and without knowing anything about it, we’re very excited for Whose Wine is it Anyway. We’ve also spotted listings for an improvised Springwatch and an Improvised Jackanory, and are excited to see others have shared our love of old BBC classics as formats for improv.
In three words why should people come and watch you at the marathon?
Blue Peter Dog.
