Improv Corner – Playing The Favourite – INTERVIEW With Hell Yeah!

Welcome to the feature which we are going to feature ever so often as part of Improv Corner. Ever so often. we are going to talk to improv acts about some of their favourite things about the comedy form. Today I speak to Monica Gaga who is hosting Hell Yeah! on the 15th June at the Omnibus Theatre from 19:45. It is part of this year’s 96 Festival at the Omnibus Theatre.

The show is a femxle-centered, fearless and completely improvised. A supHer group of London’s hottest queer improv talent. This month the show stars Amy Annette, Sadie Clarak, Alicia Ingram, Laura Evelyn, Sally Hodgkiss and Lisa Lynn.

I caught up with Monica Gaga, HELL YEAH! producer and player ahead of the show to find out about favourite things about improv.

—————–

What is your Favourite:

Improv style:

Free form. I love following the narrative and the fun with the people I am playing with.

Short form game:

My favourite short form game I love playing is ‘New Choice’ and my favourite short form game I love watching is ‘Sounds Like A Song’.

Film:

I love ‘Dreamgirls’ and I can’t wait until I can see it live on stage.

Venue to perform at

Don’t make me pick.

Way to wind down

Has to be low light and listening to a rain soundtrack. I love the sound of rain of water.

Way to warm up

Checking in with the people I’m going to be playing with.

Suggestion

Anything I haven’t heard before.

Show by another improv act

Anything with music in, in any form.

Memory of a show

I was hosting a show and the elastic in my dress snapped. Slowly my dress started to unravel, it went from a piece of clothing to just a piece of cloth I was holding up. It was hilarious and mortifying in equal measures.

Part of rehearsing a show

When the cast and format click and you get to know the people you are playing with better.

Thing about performing:

The feeling that you get when the audience and the players and discovering things together. It feels like magic.

Quote

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.” Maya Angelou

Thing about this year so far?

I am loving how many new faces we are seeing in improv.
