The Travel Book – Olimje, Slovenia

Are you visiting the beautiful country of Slovenia anytime soon? If so there is one place you must put on your list, as its quaint, full of a lot of hidden treasures and lots of beautiful deer that are actually very tame. That place is called Olimje. It is situated in the Eastern part of the country in the municipality of Podčetrtek.

Jelenov Greben is a tourist attraction not just for people on holiday (alot of people are still unaware of this place) but also with the locals and this is all because of the deer. The land has loads and loads of deer that are very tame even though they are wild. People visit to see the deers and experience them up close and personal. It is also the home of a restaurant as well.

Do you have a sweet tooth? Then you will love one of the buildings in this area – a chocolate factory called Syncerus. Whilst a small building, it offers a range of handmade chocolates that you can buy on site. The selection is not just limited to chocolate though – oh no – you can also purchase caramelized and candied fruits, and try the unique taste of the brand “Sweetness of Olimje”. The shop is open everyday however times vary depending on what time of the year you visit it.

Another place that you should visit whilst in this area is the beautiful Olimje Minorite Monastery dates back to as early as 1209. It was rebuilt in 1550 by Hans Tattenbach and has been there ever since.

It may be a small town but there is so much beauty in one area, I really recommend visiting even if it’s only for half a day.
