Off the Record – Marianas Trench

Welcome to a brand new feature on The Phoenix Remix all about music! Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the record first! This week we talk about – Marianas Trench

Push – Fix Me album

This song is a very catchy and really defines the original style of sound the Marianas Trench went for on their first album. It has a catchy guitar riff and is a really addictive song. The chorus really gets caught up inside your head and makes you want to listen to it over and over again.

September – Fix Me album

This is another song that really defines the original sound that Marianas Trench was when they were first launching their career. Again it has catch guitar riffs and really is one of the best songs on the album.

Masterpiece Theatre I, II, and III – Masterpiece Theatre

One thing you will notice about Marianas Trench that their albums tell a story and usually these are with a lot of emotion. These three tracks are the start of something special and a concept that follows throughout in later albums. They are divided up amongst the album but they are all worth a listen as they development in the music throughout each song is pretty impressive.

Ever After – Ever After Album

Out of all the albums that Marianas Trench have released this is still the most innovative and creative one yet. The whole album is based around this story that is written in the inlay booklet of the album about a princess and the whole album tells a story. It’s so hard choosing songs off the album that are unique and striking but this one has to be added to the list as it’s the opener and it is such a unique and powerful song that it will make you want to listen to the entire thing!

No Place Like Home – Ever After Album

So many of the songs from this album were singles as there was really unique music videos that ran alongside them to tell a story so it’s really hard to find a song that was an album track. This however is the last song on the album and it is amazing. It truly is a fantastic song to round up the whole album and intertwines a lot of the musical melodies and riffs from the tracks throughout.

Astoria – Astoria Album

Just like the opening song on Ever After, this song really does set the tempo for the whole album and is beautifully built up to an epic finale. The song is very different in its sound so it is something you have to get used to but once you have listened to it more then once you really will appreciate the beauty and the creativity of the levels this song works on.

Dearly Departed – Astoria Album

This song really defines the whole narrative of the album whilst also being a stand alone track and completely different to the rest of the album. The main instrument used in this song is the Ukulele and tells the story of a broken hearted man and a massive relationship collapsing around him – which is what the basis of this album is – heartbreak.

Hollywood Renaissance – Astoria Album

This album is different to the others as it has pieces of music in between that feel like they belong in a score for a film and Hollywood Renaissance is one of the most melodic and the best on the whole album. The string instruments in it really bring emotion and belong in a old film.

End Of An Era – Astoria Album

This song really is a fantastic ending to an album and really takes the Astoria album to a completely new level of genius. The melodies and development of the song throughout creates such a powerful song and a real array of emotions to the end of the album.
